KNOW ABOUT HISTORY OF

SANKALP HOSPITALS PVT.LTD.

We are proud to share that Ophthalmology has been a major part of this family since the early 1900’s when Dr. D. D. Sathaye graduated in Ophthalmology from London and Glasgow.
The second generation. Dr. Vijay D. Sathaye graduated from Seth G.S. medical college and K.E.M. hospital (Mumbai) in Ophthalmology and set foot in Jamnagar to head the Ophthalmology department at the then Irwin Hospital, before independence. After a few years he set up his eye hospital at Teen Batti chowk of Jamnagar city in 1946. Within a very short span of time he became immensely popular in and around the city for his excellent surgical skills and very humane approach. He was one of the pioneers in holding eye camps for the underprivileged in the rural areas of Jamnagar district.
At a very early age in 1971 he was no more and a SANKALP was born. (Sankalp is Sankalp and does not need an explanation for most Indian languages.)
Loosely translated for English

SANKALPA resolve and solemn pledge to oneself.

It was finally fulfilled on 15/11/1987 when the same premises at Teen Batti chowk of Jamnagar was reopened as Sankalp Hospitals by Dr. V. V. Sathaye, the third generation. With a vision to provide quality eye care to the society, he maintained a special focus on diseases of the posterior segment for which patients had to rush out of Jamnagar. He was the first qualified vitreo-retinal specialist in this region having been trained by the legendary Dr. P. N. Nagpal, one of the founders of this specialty in India.
At that time the eye care facilities were housed in a 1000 sq. ft. area. The faith and trust reposed by the people of Jamnagar and the surrounding regions made the centre grow at a rapid pace.
Very early on in 1991 Sankalp Hospitals adopted and created its own EMR ( Electronic Medical Records ). Starting on
Always keeping with the times, Sankalp Hospitals felt the need and an exercise to upgrade the facilities was undertaken in 1992 which resulted in the creation of the new hospital with state of the art facilities located at Vijay Smruti, Town Hall Circle, Jamnagar where operations commenced on 22 May 1994. On the same day maternity & gynecology services were started under Dr Mrs. Ujjvala Sathaye.

“It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place”
– Lewis Carroll

The last three decades have seen a massive technological transformation which has affected all spheres of life and the field of medicine in particular. Ophthalmology has been no exception and we are happy and proud to share that we have been able to keep abreast of these changes and maintain our preeminent position among eye care facilities in this region.
On 1/2/2024 the fourth generation of this family, Dr. Vaidehi Sathaye also a qualified vitreo-retinal surgeon, joined the team and quickly integrated her fresh knowledge and training into the existing values and philosophy of Sankalp hospitals with a vision to carry the baton forwards.
